Minor Civic Studies

In St. Scholastica’s Civic Studies minor, you will learn about the role of civic engagement in understanding and addressing complex social issues like homelessness, healthcare advocacy and other challenges. You will develop skills that will help you to reflect critically on civic life, evaluate current systems, resist injustice and work toward meaningful change.

As an interdisciplinary minor, this program incorporates knowledge from a variety of programs and educates Honors Program students to reflect critically on and engage thoughtfully in civic life and to become agents for civic change. Complementary to any major, the program emphasizes civil society and the common good. It also includes a civic engagement component that allows you to engage practically to promote civic change, especially action that resists oppressive systems and works for justice.

As a student in the Honors Program, the Civic Studies minor will prepare you to think and act together with people, no matter your differences, to improve communities. This program will provide an excellent foundation for serving others in various ways, such as through philanthropy, community organizing, social work, law or politics. It will help you explore what it means to be a citizen of the world and give you the skills to make a positive impact.
