St. Scholastica’s women head coaches to be featured in a diversity panel

The College will recognize National Girls and Women in Sports Day with a panel discussion featuring St. Scholastica head coaches Rilee Dawson (softball), Dana Moore (volleyball), Rachel Gray (men’s and women’s golf), Maria Stuber (nordic skiing) and Julianne Vasichek (women’s hockey). The event will be held via Zoom at noon on Wednesday, Feb. 2 and is free and open to the public.

Dating back to 1987, National Girls and Women in Sports Day was created to commemorate all women athletes and their achievements while breaking down gender stereotypes that are prevalent in the sports industry.

“Our history is rooted in strong, pioneering women who persevered through adversity and that history very much informs our present,” said Amy Bergstrom, chief diversity officer at the College. “National Girls and Women in Sports Day is about acknowledging that history and celebrating the positive impacts our woman coaches and athletes continue to have within our community.”

St. Scholastica has 22 NCAA D-III intercollegiate sports and competes in the Minnesota Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (MIAC) as well as the Central Collegiate Ski Association (CCSA)n . Women account for five of its fifteen head coaching positions. In July, Merissa Edwards was appointed interim athletic director, the second female AD in the College’s history.

In addition to the panel, the College’s nordic ski team will host a ski and social on Feb. 2 at 7:30 p.m. at the Lester Ski Chalet Field. All ages and abilities are welcome to participate.
