Welcoming the Class of 2028 to St. Scholastica
The College of St. Scholastica is set to welcome the incoming Class of 2028 during Welcome Weekend. Starting Friday, Aug. 30 and extending to Monday, Sept. 2, this immersive weekend is designed to usher in the newest Saints into the College’s community.
Kaitie Selleck, the director of Student Activities, is at the forefront of orchestrating this introduction to collegiate life. “Welcome Weekend is not just an event; it’s the beginning of our students’ journey at St. Scholastica,” says Selleck. “It’s a deep dive into our rich history, mission and the core values that knit our community together.”
What awaits the Class of 2028
The weekend kicks off with move-in at Somers Hall, after which new Saints and their families will be treated to a community lunch. Following goodbyes to families, students will truly embark on their college journey with the introduction to their Delta Groups. These small, peer-led groups serve as a microcosm of the College’s larger community, facilitating personal connections and communal learning.
As the weekend progresses, incoming students will find a balanced mix of essential sessions on health, safety and involvement opportunities, along with a vibrant array of social activities. Whether it’s finding their classrooms, learning about student support services or engaging in their first Dignitas class, every hour is curated to ensure a smooth and successful transition to St. Scholastica.
The peek of Welcome Weekend is the exploration of Duluth’s signature destinations, like Canal Park and Chester Bowl, which provides an end to an action-packed weekend. This acquaints students with their new home city and fosters friendships that often last a lifetime.
Beyond the weekend
Welcome Weekend is just the beginning for the Class of 2028. It lays the groundwork for a year brimming with opportunities, challenges and growth. According to Selleck, “Our primary goal is for every student to find their community here, to feel at home. Welcoming new students into our Benedictine heritage and watching them thrive is what makes St. Scholastica truly special.”
As St. Scholastica gears up for another academic year, the entire community looks forward to welcoming the newest members, ready to embark on another chapter in its rich history. To learn more about Welcome Weekend, including a detailed schedule, please visit css.edu/welcomeweekend.
