The College of St. Scholastica

The College of St. Scholastica proudly announces the opening of its new Student Center, culminating 480 days of construction and many years of planning and dreaming. This modern addition to the Duluth main campus significantly enhances the student experience for all Saints. The grand opening, celebrated with a ribbon-cutting event on Sept. 3, officially opened the center’s doors to the College community.

The ribbon-cutting ceremony

The ribbon-cutting ceremony began at 3:30 p.m. with a community reception on the quad in front of the Student Center. Attendees enjoyed refreshments and treats amid the beautifully designed outdoor spaces. At 4 p.m., a series of speeches commenced, featuring notable figures from the College such as President Dr. Barbara McDonald, St. Scholastica Monastery Prioress Sister Beverly Raway ’67, OSB and Chair of the Board of Trustees Ed Crawford ’78, among others. Their messages emphasized the Student Center’s role in fostering community, collaboration and student well-being.

Following the addresses, the ceremonial ribbon was cut, inviting attendees to explore the 17,000-square-foot facility. The state-of-the-art Student Center features versatile spaces for studying, meetings and socializing. The center is also home to the Seekers Café, which offers late-night dining options. The building’s design focuses on creating opportunities for connection and community, reflecting the values of the College.

A Second Century of Saints Campaign

Central to the realization of this ambitious project was the capital campaign A Second Century of Saints: Believe. Belong. Transform. As a testament to the power of collective vision and generosity, the campaign supported not only the Student Center but also a broader vision for the College’s future.

The new Student Center symbolizes St. Scholastica’s commitment to fostering an environment where students can thrive academically and socially. As the College looks toward its second century, the Student Center will serve as a cornerstone for building community, showcasing the values of connection and community that define the St. Scholastica experience.
