St. Scholastica to welcome ALLETE leader Maggie Thickens

The College’s Sandbulte Center for Ethical Leadership Speaker Series will welcome Maggie Thickens on Nov. 16 at noon. Thickens serves as vice president, chief legal officer and corporate secretary of ALLETE, a position she has held since 2019.

Named for retired chairman CEO of Minnesota Power Sandy Sandbulte, the speaker series is dedicated to fostering a robust discussion of ethics and their application in the Duluth community. This year’s series focuses on executives and entrepreneurs.

Dr. Melissa Goodson, associate professor in marketing and management, oversees the Sandbulte Center for Ethical Leadership.

“Each year we work closely with the executive team at ALLETE, Inc. to identify a leader from their organization for our speaker series,” Goodson said. “I’m thrilled to host Maggie Thickens, our first female speaker of the academic year, to share her leadership journey and her ethics lens.”

Thickens earned her law degree from the University of Minnesota Law School. She worked in the Office of General Counsel at Honeywell Inc. and in private practice in Duluth before joining ALLETE as an attorney and then senior attorney.

Goodson added, “the Sandbulte Center for Ethical Leadership speaker events are an excellent opportunity for our CSS community members, especially our students, to connect with leaders to get tips and inspiration about the impact we can make in our work using a values-based approach.”

Thickens’ presentation will be offered in-person on the College’s Duluth Campus in Burns Wellness Commons room 249 and is limited to members of the St. Scholastica community. Students are asked to pre-register here: Sandbulte Center for Ethical Leadership November 16, 2021 – Maggie Thickens.
