Scholarship and Creative Arts Week 2018
St. Scholastica will host a variety of events to showcase academic and artistic achievements of students and faculty during Scholarship and Creative Arts week, April 16-21. The week’s activities will include the dedication of a colorful new mural in the Science Center, a college-wide poster presentation featuring original student research, and a keynote address about indigenous water governance.
Monday, April 16:
-4:30 p.m. in Science Center room 3217 on the St. Scholastica campus: Lecture with Dr. Kevina Vulinec of Delaware State University on “My Experience as a Fulbright Scholar: Seed-Dispersing Bats in Fragmented Tropical Rainforest.”
Tuesday, April 17:
-10:30 a.m. to noon, Benedictine Commons, Science Center: The School of Business and Technology Trade Show will feature business ideas and innovations from students.
Wednesday, April 18:
-4 p.m., Intercultural Center, Tower Hall: Senior Global, Cultural and Language Studies and Peace and Justice Studies presentations. “Shrimp Between Whales: Great Power Conflict in Yemen” with Matt Breeze and “Testimony on Theatre and Identity” with Shayna Schafter.
-3:30 to 5:30 p.m., Benedictine Commons, Science Center: Student Poster Presentation Session. Students present their research findings on a variety of topics.
-4 p.m., Science Center (next to Einstein’s Bagels) dedication ceremony for new “Cor et Anima” mural.
Thursday, April 19:
-3:30 to 4:30 p.m., Library Reading Room: Presentation of the Bede Award for Undergraduate Research.
-4 p.m., Intercultural Center, Tower Hall: Senior Global, Cultural and Language Studies and Peace and Justice Studies presentations. “Parihaka: A Beacon of Peace for the World” with Abbey DeLisle, and “Geographic Federalism for Ethiopia” with Eleni Birhane.
-7 to 8 p.m., Mitchell Auditorium: Scholarship and Creative Arts Week Keynote Address by Kelsey Leonard, J.D. on “The Heart of Ohke (Earth): Understanding Great Lakes Indigenous Water Governance for our Common Future.”
-7 p.m., Burns Wellness Commons room 249: Lecture by Dr. Stephanie Arel: “Coming into View: An Intersectional Analysis of Movements to End Racism and Harassment.”
-7:30 p.m., St. Scholastica Little Theatre building (behind Tower Hall): St. Scholastica Theatre production of “Journey’s End.” Tickets are $15 for adults and $10 for students/seniors.
Friday, April 20
-4 p.m., Library: Poetry reading and reception with Associate Professor of English Ryan Vine, who will read from his original poetry collection, “To Keep Him Hidden.”
-7:30 p.m., St. Scholastica Little Theatre building (behind Tower Hall): St. Scholastica Theatre production of “Journey’s End.” Tickets are $15 for adults and $10 for students/seniors.
-7:30 p.m., Mitchell Auditorium: Lecture and Recital: Dr. Steve Ostovich, Dr. Nick Susi, and Emily Valine, Philosophy and Music. “After the Great War: The Wittgenstein Family and Maurice Ravel.” Susi will perform a left-handed concerto, “Piano Concerto in D major for the Left Hand.” The piece was written by French composer Joseph Maurice Ravel for Austrian pianist Paul Wittgenstein, who lost his right arm in the war.
Saturday, April 21
-3 p.m., Mitchell Auditorium: “So Happy Together” percussion ensembles with special guests. Tickets are $5.
-7:30 p.m., St. Scholastica Little Theatre building (behind Tower Hall): St. Scholastica Theatre production of “Journey’s End.” Tickets are $15 for adults and $10 for students/seniors.
