Message from the Office of the President: May 16 update
Dear Colleagues,
Thank you for your patience as we moved our update to Monday for this week. We have concluded a simply beautiful weekend of commencement activities this past Saturday. Our hearts overflow with deep gratitude for all the volunteers who made this possible, for the Commencement Committee, for our facilities and grounds personnel, our IT staff, and especially for Michele Runberg, who oversaw the coordination of the event. It was a fantastic demonstration of Community and Hospitality, our students, families and friends were very complimentary and social media certainly “blew up” with hundreds of photos of our graduates, our beautiful Duluth main campus and our iconic Tower Hall.
Reunion is back in-person!
You are invited to join us in celebrating our 110th Reunion on the Duluth Campus! We are so excited to be returning to an in-person celebration June 24-26. You can see the full schedule of festivities and register to participate on our Reunion website. The Alumni Engagement Team is also thrilled to announce the following Alumni Award winners who will be honored during the Heritage Luncheon on Saturday, June 25:
- The Scholastica Inspiration Award, Dr. Tammy Ostrander
- The Sister Alice Lamb Award, Brian Case ’91 BIO (’09 MA, NSG),
- The Sister Ann Edward Scanlon Award, Nicoshia Wynn ’05 MGT (’05 MA, MGT)
- The Sister Timothy Kirby Benedictine Spirit Award, Dr. Becky Urbanski ’80 MUS (’89 MA, MGT)
Athletics Updates
Spring sports are winding down in athletics, but that also means award season is picking up. The Saints have had two athletes named MIAC Athletes of the Week the last two weeks. Women’s Track & Field’s Lily Beneke was named the MIAC Women’s Field Athlete of the Week last week, while Baseball’s T.J. Martin was named the MIAC Pitcher of the Week this week. Women’s Tennis’ Martina Garcia, Madilyn Jankila and Julia Maier, along with Men’s Tennis’ Jonas Abeleda, earned All-MIAC honors this week. Look for All-MIAC Baseball and Softball teams announced this week.
Appreciation Luncheon
Thank you to everyone who worked behind the scenes to create last week’s nautical-themed appreciation luncheon! If you missed it, or just want to relive our adventure at sea, be sure to check out these photos, captured by Studio One Photography.

Weekly updates over the summer
As a reminder, the weekly update will transition to a biweekly email which means the next update will come your way on June 3. Weekly updates for the remainder of the summer will be sent:
- June 17
- June 30 (instead of July 1)
- July 15
- July 29
Updates will resume their weekly schedule on August 5.
Again, I want to thank you for your tremendous work in what has been a year of Love of Learning. We certainly have seen and felt the fruits of our collective efforts celebrated this past weekend at commencement. My hope is that in the coming weeks of summer you find time to relax, reflect and refresh, enjoy friends, family and the incredible gifts of our natural environment. Be safe and stay well!
With gratitude,
Barbara
