Feb. 19 Safe Return update
Greetings College Community!
Happy Friday and many blessings to you all as we entered the Christian observance of Lent this week, a season of reflection and preparation.
Coincidently, the next several weeks will also be a time of great preparation for us as a college community focused on planning for this summer and the next academic year. To that end, a Task Force is being convened to discuss our return and to provide recommendations to the Cabinet. We will announce membership next week and will keep the College posted.
COVID updates: events policy
The college is currently in the process of updating our events policy and procedures. New recommendations came out this past week from the Governor’s Office working with the Minnesota Department of Health (MDH) regarding the capacity limits for people attending indoor and outdoor events. Under the new guidelines, the College can increase attendance at college-hosted events to 25% of the venue capacity. All events must adhere to the College’s policies regarding face coverings, physical distancing, and hand/surface sanitization. Students should work with the Student Activities Office for student club meetings and events. For all other events, please contact Breanne Tepler at btepler@css.edu for instructions on how to submit your requests. All requests should be submitted at least two weeks prior to the event.
Athletics update:
Congratulations to our student athletes and our athletic staff! Athletics is finding early success with both Men’s Basketball (4-0) and Women’s Hockey (5-0) remaining undefeated. Men’s Hockey recorded their first home win this past weekend with an exciting OT goal against Lawrence University. Nordic Ski will be hosting the CCSA Championship this weekend while Track & Field will be hosting a UMAC Men’s meet.
Spectator attendance is still restricted to no fans for both Nordic Ski and Track & Field while Basketball and Hockey is limited to only immediate family members of the home team to meet the maximum capacity requirements and all contests are web streamed live. Next week will mark the last week of regular season play for both men’s and women’s basketball. CSS athletics still remains compliant with NCAA and MDH testing requirements which includes three tests per week for high risk sports and two tests per week for intermediate and low risk sports competing unmasked. As we close out this week, please keep our students, employees, alumni and retirees in Texas in your prayers, as they face catastrophic weather-related conditions at this time. The stories of power outages, freezing temperatures, and food and resource shortages have given us much pause. Thank you to Sr. Kathleen Del Monte for the prayer she offered for our sisters and brothers are experiencing the weather crisis in Texas.
Thank you for your tremendous work engaging our learners and providing the support for them to be successful. Enjoy the weekend ahead, which, thankfully, promises warmer weather across Minnesota at all of our locations.
Stay safe and be well,
Barbara
