Bringing peace into 2025
Diana Oestreich, an acclaimed author, activist and peacemaker, will present reflections from her book, “Waging Peace,” as part of the 2024-25 Alworth Center for the Study of Peace and Justice lecture series at The College of St. Scholastica. The third event in the themed “What is Peace?” series will take place on Thursday, Feb. 13, at 7:30 p.m. in the Mitchell Auditorium on the Duluth main campus.
“We don’t settle for denying the realities of how our systems are pretty dehumanizing. We actually show up with our full humanity, and we fight for each other,” Oestreich said in a recent interview with WDIO’s The Lift promoting the lecture. “So peace defends people instead of policies.”
Her lecture will focus on themes of justice, peace and nonviolence, emphasizing how ordinary individuals can contribute to making peace in their communities. Following her talk, attendees will have the opportunity to participate in book signings.
The Alworth Center for the Study of Peace and Justice lectures are sponsored by the Alworth Center for the Study of Peace & Justice at The College of St. Scholastica and funded in part by the Manitou Fund, the DeWitt and Caroline Van Evera Foundation and the Mary C. Van Evera Foundation Endowed Fund in memory of William Van Evera. With additional support from the Royal D. Alworth Jr. Institute at the University of Minnesota Duluth, the UMD Department of World Languages & Cultures, Reader Weekly, Duluth Sister Cities International and other private donors.
