Interfaith prayer service for Ukraine
Dear members of the Saints community,
The College of St. Scholastica is proud to be home to international students from around the globe. When individuals within our community suffer, the community suffers as well. Sadly, suffering is an inevitable outcome of geopolitical conflicts such as the one in Ukraine. However, such circumstances provide opportunities for our community of Saints to put our Benedictine values into practice.
For those in the Duluth area, Campus Ministry invites you to participate in an interfaith prayer service for peace in Ukraine at 3 p.m. today, Friday, March 4 in Our Lady Queen of Peace Chapel. Following the service, we will gather at our campus peace pole to tie blue and yellow ribbons as symbols of our prayers and solidarity. Additional ribbons will be available at campus ministry for those who would like to contribute at a later time. Thank you to our Campus Ministry staff for organizing this event and providing the attached prayer.
Beginning at dusk, we will also illuminate our beloved Tower Hall in blue and yellow lighting — a call for peace; a symbol of hope. These lights will remain on in the evenings tonight through Sunday, March 13.
Many of you have reached out asking how you can help, what action you can take to support members of our community right now. My thanks to Wynter Miller, director of the Office of International Programs, for sharing resources that will make a difference in the lives of our international students. If you wish to make a financial contribution, please consider donating to one of the funds listed below.
-
Ryan Rothstein Scholarship: The scholarship was established with the priority to help international students who display financial need.
-
Daniel H Johnson Memorial Annual Scholarship: This scholarship was created for students who demonstrate financial need with priority given to an undergraduate student who is a citizen of one of the former USSR countries.
-
Storm’s Cupboard: The purpose of Storm’s Cupboard is to provide immediate food relief for students experiencing food insecurity. Storm’s Cupboard consists of food items (non-perishable, frozen, and fresh) to sustain students for a short time. Storm’s Cupboard is available to any St. Scholastica student who requests it.
