Showcasing academic and artistic achievements across the College
As the end of the academic year approaches, The College of St. Scholastica will host its annual Scholarship and Creative Arts Weeks (SCAW) from Thursday, April 11 to Monday, May 6. Bustling with activity, SCAW features poster presentation sessions, senior artwork exhibitions and end-of-the-year award ceremonies, all to showcase the academic and artistic achievements of students across the College.
The events kick off on Thursday, April 11, with Dr. Mona Hanna-Attisha’s presentation as part of the Alworth Peace and Justice series. Dr. Hanna-Attisha will present her work as a pediatrician and advocate in Flint, MI during the lead crisis.
The following week the Management and Business Studies Department of the Stender School of Leadership, Business and Professional Studies will host its annual trade show on Wednesday, April 17, from 1:15 to 1:45 p.m. in the Benedictine Commons. The New Product Trade Show highlights the collaborative efforts of undergraduate students from MKT 3350 Designing Successful Products and MKT 3340 Market Promotions.
SCAW continues into the next week with the Art Walk on Tuesday, April 23, from 6:30 to 8 p.m. This self-guided tour through Tower Hall and the St. Scholastica Theatre allows attendees to enjoy visual art, showcasing the work of senior Art students with music provided by St. Scholastica music ensembles. The tour begins at Mitchell Auditorium with programs and maps directing attendees to various art and music stops at the College.
Later that week, a College-wide poster presentation featuring original student research will be held on Wednesday, April 24, from 3:30 to 5:30 p.m. in the Benedictine Commons. Undergraduate students will present their research efforts, project work and creative endeavors using both physical posters and online presentations.
Additionally, the Bede Award for Undergraduate Research and Deans’ Purchase Award will both take place on Thursday, April 25, starting at 3:30 p.m. in the Raven Room of the St. Scholastica Library. The annual Bede Award recognizes excellence in library research and information literacy, whereas the Deans’ Purchase Award is decided upon by the deans of the three academic schools of study who select a piece of art from the Annual Student Exhibition to purchase and install as part of the permanent art collection of the College.
Lastly, students of the Computer Information Systems and Health Informatics and Information Management departments will show off their work in the Monday, May 6 Technology Showcase in the Securian Lab (Tower Hall 2420) and Teagle Lab (Tower Hall 2412).
The College looks forward to students having the opportunity to share their accomplishments with friends, family and the wider St. Scholastica community by participating in Scholarship and Creative Arts Weeks.
