Celebrating National American Indian Heritage Month

St. Scholastica will host several events during the month of November in recognition of National American Indian Heritage Month. The College’s Native Studies Center, Office of Equity, Diversity and Inclusion, and Native American Student Alliance have also collaborated to create a resource guide with media and other opportunities for advocacy here: Native American Heritage Month 2021.

Dr. Amy Bergstrom serves as the College’s chief diversity officer. She hopes the month’s programming will engage students, faculty and staff in the rich history of Indigenous peoples while also celebrating the contributions of First Nations and Indigenous communities.

“Minnesota is home to eleven federally recognized Indigenous nations,” Bergstrom said. “These events and discussions are meaningful not only because of our campus’ geographic positioning but also because they allow us to carve out intentional time for reflection and celebration.”

On-campus events include a lesson in beading, an interactive discussion on the history of LaCrosse, a Reservation Dogs watch party and more.
