St. Scholastica’s upcoming colloquium to address language and identity
Native Studies faculty member Brian Kingfisher will host the College’s second School of Arts Colloquium on Friday, Oct. 29 from 3:40-5 p.m. During his lecture, “Culture Diversity, Language and Identity,” Kingfisher will explore how the understanding of culture, diversity and language is also intertwined with an understanding of self.
Kingfisher has taught Ojibwe Language and Culture at the College since 2018 “not only for communicative purposes but also as a means for creating awareness of the Self.” He hopes that by sharing regional differences of the language, students will feel empowered to make the language their own.
The School of Arts and Letters Colloquium is a monthly lecture series highlighting faculty research. All lectures are free and open to the public. Attendees have the option to attend Kingfisher’s lecture in person at the College’s Library or sign up to stream the lecture via Zoom.
