Creating a community identity Public murals with Paul LaJeunesse
Assistant Professor of Art Paul LaJeunesse has painted public murals that incorporate and celebrate diverse communities from southeast Tennessee to northern Minnesota. But how does LaJeunesse approach capturing the unique identities of these communities? What techniques, both artistic and otherwise, are employed? For his upcoming mural for the Burnsville Fire Department, LaJeunesse guides us through his process while commenting more generally on the challenges of capturing the abstract and evolving idea of “community” in a static work of art.
