The College is currently conducting a Learning Management System (LMS) Review. The review task force is comprised of students, staff, and faculty representing all schools of the College. Our plan is to keep the process as collaborative and open as possible to ensure that the needs of programs and individuals are met to the fullest extent possible.

Although there are many advantages to our current LMS (Blackboard), we want to be sure that CSS offers an optimal teaching and learning environment in the future. To that end, we are reviewing leading systems, including the possibility of continuing with Blackboard if our review determines that is our best option moving forward.

The task force assembled reflects a total of 27 people from the CSS community. Early in the process, three subgroups were established to consider needs and opportunities from a variety of perspectives: faculty, students, and auxiliary and mobile uses.  In December 2013, an RFI was sent to multiple potential venders. Responses from Canvas, Desire2Learn, Blackboard, and Moodle Rooms have come back for our review. The Task Force subsequently narrowed down the choices to Blackboard and Instructure Canvas. This month, both Blackboard and Instructore Canvas will be presenting on-site demonstrations for students, faculty and staff. Attendance and participation of the entire CSS community is welcome. Over the summer of 2014 and during this fall term, CSS has been running a Canvas Pilot with several volunteer faculty members. Survey results from the participating faculty and students can be found here. The most recent LMS Review committee meeting notes can be read here.
