Talk to explore historic printmaking techniques

A St. Scholastica librarian will give a free presentation about the centuries-old artistic process behind printmaking.

Todd White will present "Two Variations on Two Ravens" at 3:40 p.m. Friday, March 22 in Tower Hall room 4119.

White will discuss the process of using his own pen-and-ink drawings, photo engravings, and letterpress to create two broadside versions of the Medieval Scottish ballad "The Twa Corbies."

Broadsides were single-sided print works that often contained the lyrics to, and an illustration of, a popular song or ballad. They were sold by peddlers from the early 16th century to the middle of the 19th century.

The 40-minute talk will be followed by a question-and-answer session. The event is free and open to the public, and refreshments will be provided. The School of Arts and Letters Colloquium, a monthly lecture series highlighting faculty research in the SAL, is in its 12th year.
