The College has appointed Ben Adams as its new Chief Information Officer. Working directly with the Chief Financial Officer and the Vice President of Academic Affairs, Adams will provide strategic leadership of IT resources to advance the College's mission and goals.
Adams comes to St. Scholastica from New York University Langone Schools of Medicine, where he served as the Senior Director of Education IT and Technology Director for the Institute for Innovation in Medical Education. As Education CIO, he was responsible for all administrative technology from admissions applications to learning management systems, from faculty appointments to data analysis. As IT Director for IIME, he was responsible for managing a team of developers, designers, and data scientists to find ways for technology to transform the world of medical education.
"I'm so thrilled to be joining The College of St. Scholastica," Adams said. "The institution and the people are just amazing. When I visited campus, I was transported to my childhood on the shores of Lake Ontario. Duluth is such a beautiful place! However, the Benedictine Values were what really sold me; they are so in line with my own. The thirst for knowledge, the inclusivity and commitment to diversity, and the responsibility of stewardship - all are things I believe in deeply. I'm excited to be part of the next chapter of CSS."
Adams' previous experience includes serving as Director of Data and Analytics at the University of Pennsylvania Wharton External Affairs; Research Director for the University of Pennsylvania Wharton Customer Analytics Initiative; and Senior Technology Consultant at Campus Works, Inc.
"I am eager to welcome Ben to the St. Scholastica community," said St. Scholastica President Colette Geary. "He is well prepared to advance our vision and commitment to the innovative use of IT to provide exceptional learning environments for our students."
The St. Scholastica CIO serves on the President's Cabinet representing IT issues at an institutional level as well as informing the College's overall strategic plan. Working with all College constituents, the CIO leverages technology in support of the College's business processes and academic learning environment for face-to-face and online students. Responsibilities include providing strategic management and vision for innovative use of IT to enhance the College's competitive advantage; promoting innovative solutions that increase productivity while reducing operating expenses; providing technology-enhanced academic learning spaces; and contributing to high-level strategic planning and decision making.
Adams holds a Master of Science in Engineering from the University of Pennsylvania and a Bachelor of Science in History from Fordham University - College at Rose Hill. He has given presentations at a variety of conferences on higher education topics ranging from faculty assessment to measuring student satisfaction. His skill sets include training, database design, project management and information dashboard design.
Adams begins his new duties on Oct. 1.
