Frequently Asked Questions | Orientation
Q: What is Orientation?
A: Orientation is a chance to get to know The College of St. Scholastica and the surrounding area of Duluth. You will take academic assessments, register for fall classes, learn about campus programs, meet new friends (both first year and returning students), and much more.
Q: How do I sign up for Orientation?
Q: Which assessments do I need to take?
A: Foreign Language Assessment: The foreign language assessment is only for those taking French, Spanish, or German. It is required of all incoming students who have had less than 3 years of a foreign language in high school OR who have had 3 years or more and plan to continue on in college. Students who have had 3 years (or more) of a foreign language in high school and do not plan to continue on, are not required to take the assessment.

A: Yes, all incoming St. Scholastica students are required to attend an Orientation Session.
Q: What do I have to bring to Orientation?
A: If you have taken "College In The Schools (CITS)" or PSEO classes, it is a good idea to bring along an unofficial copy of your college transcript(s) for registration. In addition to that, it is a good idea to bring any materials you have received from us about credits that have already been officially transferred in.

A: Yes, family and friends are always welcome. For the First Year Student Orientation, there is a concurrent Parent Orientation.
Q: How do my parents sign up for Parent orientation?

A: No, there is no charge for you to attend Orientation. However, it is important that you have paid your $350 Admissions/Housing deposit ($200 for local area students who will be living at home) prior to Orientation.
Q: Do I need to bring any money?
A: This is totally up to you. We provide lunch for you, so you shouldn't need money for meals. However, if you want to purchase CSS apparel at the Bookstore, soda, candy, etc., then you should bring money with you.
