Middle/Secondary Education

The knowledge, skills and disposition of effective teachers
The School of Education (SOE) fosters high academic standards, technological literacy, collaborative partnerships and a diverse learner perspective throughout its programs. In addition, our program has the following strengths:
- Substantial and continuous time spent in local schools working with students. This starts in your first class and continues through student teaching.
- Small classes (15-25 students) in which you get to know the professors and they get to know you.
- Professors who are highly qualified and have many years of successful K-12 teaching experience.
- Professors who are ready and willing to give you the time you need in and out of the classroom. Our office doors are open!
- Excellent local schools, public and private, that are happy to have you work with their students. The College of St. Scholastica has an outstanding reputation among area and state schools.
Graduates are licensed to teach an academic content area. Academic content majors offered:

Classroom experience begins with your first semester
At St. Scholastica, we understand how critical classroom experience is for prospective teachers. That's why we ensure that students have plenty of in-class experience when they graduate, starting with their very first semester. In addition to developing the skills required to be an effective educator, this gives students an opportunity early in their education to make sure the education field is the right choice.
Standards-based curriculum
Our curriculum is designed to correspond to the Interstate New teacher Assessment and Support Consortium (INTASC) standards. Our programs are nationally accredited by the Teacher Education Accreditation Council (TEAC) and have received continuing approval by the Minnesota Board of Teaching.
