The College of St. Scholastica's Upward Bound (UB) Program has been successfully providing motivation and postsecondary preparatory support to area high school students since 1993. The UB Program works with 71 low-income, first-generation youth per year who have the desire and motivation necessary to successfully complete high school and go on to pursue a four-year college degree. Current UB students come from five target high schools - AlBrook, Cloquet, Cook, Cotton, Duluth Central, and Wrenshall High Schools.
The College of St. Scholastica's UB Program is designed to provide the motivation and skill necessary to complete high school, enter a program of postsecondary education, and succeed in postsecondary education by earning a four-year degree. To accomplish this ambitious goal, students participate both during the academic school year and in a six-week summer program.
The UB Program has been extremely successful, with a 93% retention rate of all high school students served. To date, 99% of UB students have graduated from high school. CSS UB students go on to attend a wide variety of postsecondary institutions. The College of St. Scholastica is one of only 47 postsecondary institutions nationwide with at least five TRiO Programs on campus. In addition to Upward Bound Math/Science, St. Scholastica's programs include Talent Search, Upward Bound, Student Support Services, and the McNair Scholars Program.
