From on campus to online, students at The College of St. Scholastica have access to many tools for productivity, pursuit of academic excellence and participating in healthy community. It's the goal of the Information Technologies department to create, maintain, support and grow an environment where all members of the community have access to the resources required to succeed.
The process for migration to the new Google powered @css.edu email for students is pretty straight forward. Many of you are already familiar with the functionality, look and feel and operations of Gmail. You will still have the same email address and password you used for Groupwise.
This actually represents the first part of a larger transition in the way web based services are delivered to our community, it's called "Single Sign On" and will allow you to login in one place, the new portal coming second semester 2011, and have access to all of your services without signing on again. For now, we're starting with how we handle email and calendaring, by moving to Google Apps for .edu.
The main thing to be aware of is that all items in student email accounts prior to 08/16/2010 will not be migrated. You will need to save anything associated with that email out from Groupwise. This includes attachments, content of emails, calendar items and contact information.
Please use the tabs below to find instructions on how to retain old information and set-up and use your new Gmail powered css.edu email.

Groupwise Email will still be available to you until October 1st for you to access your old emails. If you would like to move any of your old emails to Gmail, there are two methods for doing this. The IT Help Desk has created a video tutorial for method one.
Log on your Google account. Go to the top right top side of the page and click on settings. On the top bar go click Forwarding and POP/IMAP. Go to the third section (IMAP Access) and click on Enable IMAP. Click on Save Changes
Go to Google search bar and type "thunderbird" chose the first link. There's an icon with the word "free download" click on it and download thunderbird. (http://www.mozillamessaging.com/en-US/thunderbird/)
Install thunderbird.
The program will launch automatically asking you to put your name, email address and you password.
Type your name, then your email (your username@css.edu), and then your password. Click on continue.
Make sure that you have two green lights for Incoming and Outgoing.
Click on Create Account, and then it will load all your emails from your Google account.
Click once on your name on your name on the top left side. Then click on Create a new account.
A window will show up, the same window that showed up before. Put the same information that you used before, you name and email: your username@css.edu, and your password. Click on continue.
Go and click on Edit, go to SMTP and change the number from 465 to 25, and put 993 for IMAP. Click on Re-test Configuration. Make sure you have the Incoming and the Outgoing are green. Click on Create Account. You will get your Group Wise account underneath the Gmail one.
If you want to foreword emails from your inbox: highlight the emails and go to Messages in the top menu, and then to Move to, the first one is your Gmail and the second is your Group Wise, so you want to choose the first one and also you can choose in which folder you want them.
For folders: you can use "Drag and Drop way" Click on the folder you want to move and keep clicking and drag it to the up folders on the Gmail account and drop it there.
Check your Gmail account to make sure you have everything.
