About The Event: Tying the Knot is a celebration of "fatherhood" interweaving song, images, storytelling and dance. This spirited evening will honor the unbreakable bonds that connect the richness of African American culture to the vital and universal role of fathers and fatherhood in our communities. Hosted by Emmy Award winning actor, vocalist, arts educator and affiliate professor at the University of Minnesota in the College of Theatre Arts and Dance, T.Mychael Rambo, this program will bring to the Fitzgerald stage the culmination of a number of collaborations with area arts, literature and community based organizations creating content that will provide added depth, texture and appeal to the evening's presentation. Performers will include poet(s)/playwrights like Marion McClinton and Rohan Preston and vocalists Bruce Henry, Julius Collins, Aimee Bryant, Thomasina Petrus, and Tonia Hughes-Kendrick.		All Alumni Reunion June 21-24, 2012 Duluth Campus The College will be celebrating its Centennial Reunion in June and we want you to be a part of our largest Reunion ever. Centennial
The College of St. Scholastica will mark its Centennial on Sept. 10, 2012. This is 100 years to the day after six young women presented themselves for matriculation to the newly formed College. Since then, St. Scholastica has grown to over 3,900 students, five statewide locations, and dozens of graduate, undergraduate, and certificate programs, including online and accelerated evening offerings. School of Arts and Letters Colloquium Friday, May 4 3:40-4:40p Tower Hall 4119 Admission is free, open to the public, and refreshments are provided A Nomadic Spirituality of Home: An Alternative Map for Survivors of Childhood Violence Dr. Denise Starkey, Chair, Theology and Religious Studies The focus of this paper, and especially the larger project, is concerned with the experience of spiritual homelessness, particularly for survivors of child abuse and the compounded experiences of suffering in adulthood in the forms of interpersonal violence, addiction, material homelessness, and complex post-traumatic stress disorder. Dr. Starkey's aim is to construct a nomadic spirituality of home that travels beyond conventional metaphors and notions of home and belonging. The study is informed by the empirical studies underway that explore the contributions of spirituality to healing for survivors, as well as the impediments spirituality sometimes represents, particularly in the form of mainstream notions of suffering as well as the idealized mythos of home and belonging. Dr. Starkey works from the commitments and insights of feminist philosophies, cultural history, and liberation theologies, which recognize that insights and understandings arise from the concrete experiences of those who suffer - whether material poverty, migration, or a number of experiences of exclusion and oppression based on racism, sexism, etc. This work, therefore, moves in a dual direction - learning from and offering to. Dr. Starkey is particularly interested in the understandings beginning to surface from the knowledge and experiences of diaspora, migration, displacement, refugees, and exile. A deeper awareness of the experiences of millions of persons displaced by genocides, political, economic, and domestic violence may offer helpful and revised understandings of home/lessness and place/lessness. These new understandings, about ancient realities of exile and migration, as well as resilience and survival, suggest helpful paths for understanding the "internal displacement" that survivors of complex child abuse endure. Emeritus College Connecting lifelong learning with friends in your community, where curiosity never ages! Enrollment is open to all curious learners, and no formal degrees are required. Emeritus College is a program of continuing education for lifelong learners. Join us for enrichment seminars with stimulating instructors and energetic participants without the stress of tests and assignments. Most Emeritus College courses meet for 90 minutes, once a week for six weeks at The College of St. Scholastica and at convenient community locations throughout the region.
