Students are housed in private homes or apartments with students from Petrozavodsk State University and have lunch in a student cafeteria. This gives them many opportunities for contact with their Russian counterparts. The American directors of the tour are on hand to assist with learning and living adjustments.

Students tour Moscow and St. Petersburg, and there are numerous outings in the region around Petrozavodsk, including the island of Kizhi and the Kivach waterfalls. There are formal and informal meetings with young people, professors and representatives from the community during which students may practice their Russian. There are also plenty of opportunities to attend cultural and athletic events.
