New Careers in Nursing Scholarship

Funded by the Robert Wood Johnson Foundation

The College of St. Scholastica (CSS) is pleased to be awarded for a fifth year, funding from the Robert Wood Johnson Foundation (RWJF) New Careers in Nursing Scholarship Program.This groundbreaking national initiative, launched by RWJF and the American Association of Colleges of Nursing (AACN) in 2008, aims to help alleviate the nation's nursing shortage by dramatically expanding the pipeline of students in accelerated nursing programs.St. Scholastica received a grant of $60,000 and will award $10,000 scholarships to qualified students beginning the program in May 2013.

Eligibility

Students who plan to enter the Post Baccalaureate Nursing Program and meet one or more of the following criteria:

• Applicant is from a group that is underrepresented in nursing (ethnic or racial minority group, men).
• Applicant is from an economically disadvantaged background as determined by HRSA.
• Family of origin within annual income below a level based on low income thresholds according to family size.

Is Financial Aid available?

Yes, loan funding may be available to help you cover your cost of attendance. For further consideration, please complete the 2012-2013 Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) and 2013-2014 FAFSA . The Title IV code for the College of St. Scholastica is 002343.

What types of loans are available to me?

There are a number of loan options to choose from.

•  The Federal Stafford Loan program allows students to borrow up to a maximum of $12,500 per academic year. The overall aggregate borrowing limit with this loan program is $57,500 (amount is based upon "Independent Status" as per FAFSA guidelines). Stafford loans are guaranteed and do not require a cosigner.
• Alternative/Supplemental Educational Loan: This type of loan requires a credit-worthy borrower and/or a credit worthy cosigner. Please see our loan information page for recommended lenders.

Can my previous undergraduate loans be deferred?

Possibly. Federal loans can be deferred as long as you are enrolled at half-time status. Private loan deferment varies by lender. Please check with the lender.

Are scholarship opportunities available?

Yes, there are a number of scholarship opportunities available on a competitive basis. Please check our scholarship directory. 

Can I borrow extra loans to use for living expenses and/or to purchase books?

Yes, part of the loans you will be offered can be used for this purpose. Be sure you complete a Refund Authorization and Direct Deposit Authorization via cor.css.edu to participate in this.

2. Complete a 2012-2013 and 2013-2014 Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA)
3. Once fully accepted, you will receive a Financial Aid Award letter and will need to complete the checklist listed at cor.css.edu (OneStop tab)
