The benefits of precepting are two-fold; personally, it helps me be on top of the most current information. I am a sharper NP because of this.
On the other hand, precepting new NP students allows clinical sites to educate them in not only best practices for patient care, but also in how to navigate an integrated health care delivery system. In the six years I've been precepting, five of my students have been hired by Essentia Health.
Students are seeing the appeal of rural sites in that they are excellent in using a team model of health care delivery, which is responsible to the NP practice. This helps recruit and retrain quality nurse practitioners.![]()
