Why did you choose St. Scholastica?

I really wanted to go to college in the Duluth area but didn't want to go to a really big school. I liked the small class sizes, being able to know my professors by name, and the atmosphere of the campus in general. Everyone is also very welcoming and helpful.

Why did you choose your major?

I originally chose it because I wanted to be a journalist, but now I lean more towards doing something in advertising, human resources, or radio. I also love writing and felt like a communication major fits what I wanted to do with my life.

Do you participate in any extracurricular activities; if so, why?

Yes. I'm involved in the Campus Activity Board, Peer Advising, The Cable, and Figure Skating. It's a great way to meet people and be active in the school.

What's your favorite class? And who is your favorite professor?

Right now I'd have to say Stylistics with John Schifsky. He really challenges you to think outside the box and travel outside your comfort zone in your writing. One of my favorite professors is Tammy Ostrander. I like her teaching style. She always has an example to help you understand. Her classes can be tough, but it's a sign of a good teacher when he or she can challenge you.

Special projects/trips you participated in?

I participated in the Spirit and Justice Trip to Cuernavaca, Mexico, in 2008. We visited several families and different places and saw the world from the perspective of the poor. It was an eye-opening experience. I highly recommend it to anyone if they have the opportunity to go.

Advice for prospective students?

Get involved on campus. It's a great way to meet new people and try new things.
