The College has developed its fourth Massive Open Online Course or MOOC and is offering it at no cost. Exploration of SNOMED CT Basics begins Monday, April 21, and registration is open until May 23. Registrants must complete the course by June 13. The instructor is Rita Scichilone, who is an adjunct instructor of HIM.

SNOMED Clinical Terms (SNOMED CT) is the most comprehensive, multilingual clinical terminology in the world. SNOMED CT is complementary to coding systems already in place and provides descriptive terms for use in healthcare. This eight-week course explores the basic structure and uses of SNOMED CT. Instructional materials are featured from the International Health Terminology Standards Development Organization and supplemented with learning activities, a discussion forum for information exchanges and instructor support.

The course has been approved for 12 continuing education units for use in fulfilling the continuing education requirements of the American Health Information Management Association. Consider taking advantage of the opportunity to experience a MOOC firsthand and receive 12 CEUs at no charge. Register at: go.css.edu/learn.
