DULUTH, MN - Charles Kenny, a World Bank senior economist, will speak at 7:30 p.m. Thursday, Nov. 8, in the Mitchell Auditorium on The College of St. Scholastica campus. The title of his discussion is "Global Development is Succeeding" The public is welcome; there is no charge for the event.
Kenny's presentation is the second lecture in a series called Confronting Global Poverty, sponsored by the Alworth Center for the Study of Peace and Justice. The World Bank calculates that half of the world lives on less than $2.50/day and that the poorest 40 percent of the globe's population represents only 5 percent of global income.
In addition to his position with the World Bank, Kenny is the author of "Getting Better," in which he presents the story of the modern world as one of unprecedented progress. He demonstrates that technologies of increased production are widespread and that the world is a much better place than it was half a century ago.
Additional lectures in this series are outlined below. All events are free and open to the public. They start at 7:30 p.m. and are located in the Mitchell Auditorium on campus.
