Concert and Jazz Band Performances April 24 at St. Scholastica

The College of St. Scholastica Concert and Jazz Bands will stage a spring concert at 7:30 p.m. Tuesday, April 24, in the Mitchell Auditorium. Admission is $5; the public is welcome.

Interim directors Charles Leibfried and John Paulson will lead the performance, while Marianne Connelly, assistant professor of music at St. Scholastica, is on leave.

The Jazz Ensemble, under the direction of Leibfried, will feature selections such as "Wind Machine" by Sammy Nestico, "Land of Make Believe" by Chuck Mangione, and "Cooler by the Lake" by John C. Smith. Katie Hoff will be featured on vocals with the popular jazz selection, "I'm Beginning to see the Light," by Duke Ellington. 

Paulson will direct the Concert Band. It will open with "Flourish for Wind Band" by R. Vaughan Williams. Music from the Renaissance will be highlighted with inventive arrangements by Bob Margolis and Robert Hanson. Next, the band will perform an Irish tune composed by Melanie Donahue. St. Scholastica band student Chris Belich will be featured performing the vibraphone on Tim Huesgen's "Trilogy No. 1 - A Vision in a Dream." The concert will conclude with an exciting arrangement of Reinhold Glière's bombastic "Russian Sailors Dance."
